Free 411 and information services
You might not know this, but every time you dial 411 from your phone, you are charged possibly as much as $1 or more each time. This is, of course, ridiculous. Other information services also cost exorbitant amounts of money. Below are free alternatives that are sometimes even better than the similar paid service.

Num2Name – (http://www.num2name.com/) this is basically a free reverse phone lookup service. It gives basic information such as registered name, city and state, phone company, and number type. It works best with landlines but also can be used for cellular numbers (they don’t usually have the name).

GOOG-411 – By calling 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone, you can get instant free 411 service. You can also get the information via text message for cell phones. More information – (http://www.google.com/goog411/).

Google SMS – this is a lot like the Google 411 service except better. Test ‘GOOGLE’, which is 466453, any number of questions to get information. You can get a huge amount of information such as weather forecasts, local time, maps, stock quotes, movie showings and even information such as META readings and language translation. Go ahead and program this in your phone.

Free411 – Call 1-800-FREE-411 (1-800-373-3411) for easy 411 service. You listen to a short ad, and then you can hear your listing. You can also get it texted to you.

Free Public Records and Criminal Records – many jurisdictions around the U.S. now maintain some or all of their public records online. Crimcheck.com (http://www.crimcheck.com/freerecords.htm) offers a list of many of these. You will be able to search and view some public records that have not been sealed by the court, set aside, expunged, or destroyed. Of note, if you can’t find what you want here, you can visit your local clerk of court and do a physical check at the courthouse.
