Although there currently isn't a way to earn any type of degree or certification for free, there are several opportunities for you to take university-level and certification-level classes for free. Sometimes you can even earn Continuing Education credit for completing some classes.

HP Learning Center (http://www.hp.com/go/learningcenter) - Free classes by HP that are concise and effective. They contain long, conventional online classes plus How-To videos and Short Lessons. Topics range from Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows Vista, Adobe Photoshop and more.

GCFLearnFree (http://www.gcflearnfree.org) - free online classes mainly dealing with all of Microsoft Office, and basic internet and computer skills, but it also features classes on basic math skills and everyday life. Most classes and tutorials are informal, but many also offer Certificates of Completion and Continuing Education Units (CEU).

MIT Open Courseware (http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm) - the Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers over 1,800 free online classes, many of which are the exact same classes they offer to their students. They also now offer advanced and AP high school classes. These are excellent for preparing for a class at your school or university.
