Free cellular / cell phone services

It is rare that you can get entirely free cellular service, but there are a few programs that may allow certain customers to attain this.  Check out these sites, and see if you qualify.

  1. SafeLink Wireless – (http://www.safelinkwireless.com/)  This is a government-backed program that allows customers to get discounted or completely free wireless service. People who qualify get a free cell phone, free cellular service, and free minutes each month.  Services such as Caller ID, call waiting, and voicemail come standard.  This service is only available in the following states currently: Delaware, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.  The service will soon be offered in the following places also: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, and New Hampshire.  Generally, in order to qualify, you have to have a relatively low income and already qualify for or receive government programs such as food stamps and welfare.

  2. Blyk – (http://www.blyk.com/)  This is the world’s first advertiser-supported, completely free cell phone service in the world.  The problem?  It is only valid in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.  The way it works:  you get 217 text messages and 43 minutes a month for free.  In return, advertisers send you several text messages per day.  How can I join Blyk?  You have to either be invited by a current member, sign up at special promotion booths they sometimes have, or see a Blyk ad on the internet and click on it.  There seem to be several websites that have set up forums for users to give away their invite codes.  Just go to Google and search for ‘blyk invite.’  You should come up with something eventually.  Also, the word on the street is that if you text SUMMER to 82595, you might be able to receive an invite code.
