Free cable television and movies

There are plenty of options you can use to get free channels, free movies, free TV shows, are free TV service.  Most of these are through your computer, so you could invest in a VGA to VGA cable to route an HD picture from your computer to your actual TV.

  1. TVU Networks – (http://www.tvunetworks.com/)  I recently came upon this great program by chance; it offers hundreds of free channels from 78 countries in over a dozen major languages.  From the United States, you can watch CBS, Spike TV, Comedy Central, Sci-Fi Network, Nickelodeon, Discovery, NBC, Fox News, ESPN 2, C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2, Wildlife Channel, and TBN.  Channels go on and offline, the listings change a lot, and it seems anyone can add a channel if they would like.  Not bad to look at, though.

  2. Network Website Programming – many of the standard broadcast stations offer full-length episodes, some in high definition, for free on their website.  Some of the big ones include ABC (http://abc.go.com/player/), NBC (http://www.nbc.com/video), CBS (http://www.cbs.com/video/), PBS (http://www.pbs.org/video/), Fox (http://www.fox.com/fod/), CWTV (http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video), Nickelodeon (http://www.nick.com/turbonick), USA Network (http://www.usanetwork.com/fullepisodes), TNT (http://www.tnt.tv/dramavision), TBS (http://www.tbs.com/video/index), Cartoon Network (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/video/index.html), Fox Reality (http://www.foxreality.com/video.php), HGTV (http://www.hgtv.com/full-episodes/package/index.html), History Channel (http://www.history.com/video.do?action=home), Lifetime Network (http://www.mylifetime.com/video), MTV (http://www.mtv.com/videos/), Sundance Channel (http://www.sundancechannel.com/player/#//), TV Land (http://www.tvland.com/shows/), Bravo (http://www.bravotv.com/videos).   There are probably other channels that have full-length episodes as well.  Just search for the TV channel followed by ‘episodes’ or ‘full video.’  Most of these full-length videos are for their proprietary shows, although there might be some exceptions.

  3. OVGuide – (http://www.ovguide.com/) This is literally a compendium of tons of full episodes, full-length movies, user-generated content, and video game videos.  You can search for and find most things.  It is pretty much a search engine that consists of just videos.  I searched for the movie Knowing with Nicholas Cage, which is still in theaters, and within 2 minutes found a high-quality streaming video of it.  Amazing.

  4. Joost – (http://www.joost.com) an excellent source of high-quality TV episodes.

  5. ChannelChooser (http://www.channelchooser.com/)  great high-quality streaming channels.  Favorites include HBO, Discovery Channel, ESPN, Sci Fi, BBC, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and MTV.

  6. Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/) – Last but not least, one of my favorite video sites.  Full-length episodes in standard definition of HD.  Also, contains many full-length movies.  Sponsored by NBC and News Corp.  Contains the newest episodes, news, sports, and more.  Definitely go here when you get a chance.
