Recently I decided to start entering contests during my free time to see what I could come up with. A quick Google search of “contests” and “sweepstakes” turns up hundreds of giveaways, likely many of them unreal and a waste of time.

Consequently, I decided to refer to several sites where I knew there would be reliable contest and giveaway posts. One such site is Free Stuff Time’s ‘Contests’ section (http://www.freestufftimes.com/contests/) and Slickdeal’s ‘Contests and Sweepstakes’ section (http://forums.slickdeals.net/forumdisplay.php?f=25).

Part of the problem with entering into many of these contests is that it takes time, and the chances are good you won’t win anything to speak of. With that being said, the best strategy is to get form autofilling software such as the one provided with Google Toolbar or RoboForm to make sure you don’t spend a lot of time doing this. Also, only do this when you have absolutely nothing else to do. Everyday, it’ll take about 10-15 minutes to enter into all of the contests posted for that day.

One would think that I probably haven’t won anything in the week that I have been doing this, but so far I have entered Microsoft’s Office for Mac contest, and I won a copy of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 Special Media Edition ($500 value) and also a Bic Triumph 730R Roller Pen (http://bictriumph.com/promotion.aspx). They are giving away 100 pens per day for 30 days.

I guess I got lucky.

During a recent discussion with a friend that likes to gamble often, I was informed that casinos like to give promotions to new players and as incentives to keep you from going to other competing casinos; this appears to be especially true in areas that are casino-rich. Some of these incentives include free play money, coupons for their amenities, or other free or comped items such as hotel rooms, alcohol, etc.

So, I decided to test out exactly what I could get by sending letters to each casino. I decided to concentrate on the Biloxi, MS area. For further benefit, I decided to use the free $5 in postage I received for a trial to Stamps.com.

I sent letters to the following casinos in Biloxi, Mississippi as well as to a few others:

Beau Rivage Resort & Casino

875 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

Isle of Capri Casino Resort

151 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

Palace Casino Resort

154 Howard Ave

Biloxi, MS 39530

Boomtown Biloxi Casino

676 Bayview Ave

Biloxi, MS 39530

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Biloxi

777 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

Treasure Bay Casino & Hotel

1980 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39531

Grand Casino Biloxi

265 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

IP Casino Resort & Spa

850 Bayview Ave

Biloxi, MS 39530

Casino Magic Biloxi

195 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

Isle of Capri Casino Crowne
Plaza Resort

151 Beach Blvd

Biloxi, MS 39530

I will post an update with exactly what response I received from each. I am also guessing that this type of correspondence could be useful for an travel destination or vacation.
