Introduction to Amazon.com marketplace
Amazon.com is possibly the largest fixed-price marketplace in the world. Millions of people and thousands of transactions take place on its website each day. For sellers this offers a unique opportunity to reach millions of potential customers by piggybacking in Amazon.com’s already developed inventory system. Unlike eBay, there is no need to create personalized listings; Amazon has already done this for each item, and their listings are powerful and appear high in search results. The seller need not worry about much except indicating how many of a particular item they have and in what condition it is.

With that being said, Amazon.com is very good for some type of items and not a viable choice for others. There are many types of items that cannot be sold on Amazon.com at all; generally, only items that could be found at a retail store are available for listing. Also, in order to sell in certain categories, you may have to be approved. Generally, Amazon.com Marketplace is perfect for media items, especially books.
You will not find a higher profit margin for books at any other venue. Over time much of the new and used book sales that used to take place on eBay have moved to Amazon.com because of their ease of use and friendlier seller policies. There are many textbooks that could hardly earn a few dollars on eBay that can easily earn $30 or more on Amazon.com. The strength of their method is that it is high exposure, easy to use for the seller and the buyer, and very, very flexible payment methods.
